The 2nd Annual Living Labs Symposium builds on the key themes of Smart and Urban, Health and Ageing, and Rural and Remote Living Labs.

The morning session speakers introduce case studies across the three examples and the afternoon sessions mix panel and hands on practice session.

The 2nd Annual Living Labs Symposium builds on the key themes of Smart and Urban, Health and Ageing and Rural and Remote Living Labs:

Morning Programme and Speakers:

Welcome and introduction to Living Labs and ALLIN from 8.15 am

Professor Lars Coenen the inaugural City of Melbourne Chair of Resilient Cities from the Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute will speak about this investigation of the 50 Urban Living Labs in Europe as part of the GUST project.

Associate Professor Michael Dezuanni will outline the concept of social living labs as developed through the Fostering Digital Participation Project, undertaken in Toowoomba and Townsville regions from 2014-2016. The project saw the development of six separate living labs in which local residents co-designed projects to foster the use of digital technologies in the community.

Dr Philippa Collin will present on the early development of a Mental Health and Well-being living Labs at Western Sydney.

Afternoon Programme

In the afternoon we continue the three themes of Smart and Urban Living Labs, Health and Ageing and Rural and Remote.

Smart and Urban Cities

  • A panel discussion with Lars Coenen, Neil Temperley (Data61, Transport and Logistic Living Lab Mentor and Smart Cities expert) and Associate Professor Nickolas Falkner

  • Workshop a real example of an Australian Energy Living Lab

  • Develop a smart City Living Lab tool kit

Health and Ageing

  • Two hands on workshops co-creation workshops (a) using emotion lead design and (b) building a Living Lab community

  • Panel discussion including with Dr Philippa Collin and Dr Malcolm Fisk an international telehealth, ageing and co-creation expert from the UK

Rural and Remote Social Innovation

  • A/ Professor Michael Dezuanni will introduce a social living labs toolkit used for the Fostering Digital Participation Project and participants will have an opportunity to consider how the toolkit might be used in their local communities to promote co-design and user led engagement.

  • Discussion - How do Living Labs help regional urban transformations conversation

  • 2 further workshops hands on workshops tbc
