Deadly Digital Communities

Digital literacy is an essential skill in the digital age as more services and daily interactions move online. The Deadly Digital Communities program is an initiative of the State Library of Queensland and Telstra in partnership with Indigenous Knowledge Centres and local councils. Deadly Digital Communities provides community-based digital literacy and technology training over two years to 26 remote and regional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities in Queensland.

The Australian Digital Inclusion Index reportedly found that digital inclusion is steadily increasing in Australia. However, access to digital technologies and digital skill-building is limited for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities. Deadly Digital Communities helps people in such communities to develop digital literacy skills and use digital technology to access important health, social and financial services.

The program will commence this month and roll out over two years. More information on Deadly Digital Communities can be found via this link: http://statements.qld.gov.au/Statement/2017/7/3/new-digital-literacy-program-rolls-out-for-indigenous-communities
