A Digital Civil Society

At the end of July the Stanford University Civil Society Lab visited Brisbane. Community Resourcing and the Community Care Smart Assistive Technology Collaborative were delighted to be one of the sponsoring organisations of their visit. Stanford Civil Society Lab is currently undertaking a world tour on Digital Impact. Various sessions were held with a clear focus on managing digital impacts in a civil society. These sessions highlighted a variety of issues ranging from possibilities to responsibilities.

The sessions challenged participants that current Democratic society depends on a diverse network of Digital Civil Society. One particular panel session investigated digital dependency, the need for new governance structures and how to protect human rights in the digital age, issues of great importance as technological advancements continue to improve daily. Some other topics of discussion were massive shifts in labour organisation, new skills required to understand current technology and the need to pay particular attention to those with special needs and marginalised individuals and groups.

We will be expanding on some of these issues in the coming weeks via news posts and our blog on the Collaborate so keep an eye out.
